Titusville High School recently performed their own rendition of the Beauty and the Beast Musical. Belle was played by Sophomore Chloe Preston, and the Beast was played by Junior Garen Earls. The production was directed by Mrs. Andrea Fenske, with Musical director Nathaniel Licht in the orchestra pit. Overall, the cast and crew was very pleased with the outcome of the play and how hard everyone worked to make the performances go as smoothly as possible.

Garen Earls said, ”I think it went great! Nothing terrible happened during our shows, and everyone’s effort truly paid off.” The group effort to make this play a success comes from the drama group as a whole. The teamwork of the cast and crew and the way they have to depend on each other to get things done really helps them build good chemistry and friendships. “I loved the friends I made when I was participating”, said Emme-Kate Wilks, one of the stage crew members.

Along with the friendships, struggles, and excitement of getting to participate in a school play, there is also a connection to how the big stage of Broadway can influence high school theater. Broadway is the biggest stage for acting, and many people who end up having an acting career first start out in theater. Broadway has had a profound influence on many people in different ways.

“I really think the word “Broadway” carries its own weight that describes it perfectly, huge, nearly melodramatic, and over-the-top. Those are the things I think of when I act,” said Garen Earls.

Theater as a whole, whether on Broadway or the stage of Colestock auditorium, is an amazing time and takes a lot of work and effort. It creates new friendships, new experiences, new struggles, and some of the best memories an actor or actress could dream of.
