Titusville Area School District releases information about threat

PRESS RELEASE

Titusville Area School District
April 25, 2019

On Wednesday April 24, 2019, the high school principals received an anonymous report that a fellow student threatened to bring a gun to school. The report did not give any other details such as time or date. This unsubstantiated threat was made toward the high school through a social media group chat late yesterday. Therefore out of precaution, additional supervision was implemented at the high school this morning. The Titusville Police were informed of this potential threat and three police officers were also present for supervision of student entry into the building.

The high school principals have been able to identify two students who were involved in making the threat; no weapons were found in their possession. Those students have been removed from the building into the custody of their parents. These threats come in the wake of some high school students trying to foster respect and tolerance for all regardless of no race, color, age, creed, religion, sex, sexual orientation, ancestry, national origin, or disability through the announcement of a planned SAGA group meeting under the guidance of Women Services professionals.

The threat is currently still under investigation. The local police have been notified about the circumstances of the investigation as per policy and procedure. Parents are encouraged to remind your children to speak to an adult at the school if they are aware of any information regarding school and individual safety. The District is committed to providing a safe, positive learning climate for students in the schools. Therefore, harassment in any form is not tolerated.
